Nine excursion destinations between the Frankenwald and Fichtelgebirge, from Schwarzenbach itself all the way to Bamberg.
The Fichtelgebirge has been a designated Naturpark since 1971 and covers roughly 1,000 km² in northeastern Bavaria. Its highest peak, the Schneeberg, rises to 1,053 metres; the Ochsenkopf (1,024 m) is reachable by cable car in both summer and winter. Four rivers rise here: the Main, Eger, Naab and Saale.
Schwarzenbach an der Saale 0 km
Schwarzenbach an der Saale is a wonderful place for relaxation and recreation. Its location between the Frankenwald forest and the Fichtelgebirge mountains makes it an ideal starting point for walks or bicycle rides. A mountain-bike network even starts right in Schwarzenbach. Cyclists can follow the Saale cycle path toward the Untreusee lake or choose a longer multi-day route. The Förmitztalsperre reservoir, ideal for swimming, diving, surfing and angling in summer, and the village of Hallerstein with its own circular walking route from the "Hallersteiner Haisla" inn, are both worth the detour. Excellent winter sports facilities can be found on the Kornberg and the Ochsenkopf.
Erika Fuchs Museum 1 km
The Erika-Fuchs-Haus | Museum of Comics and Language Arts honors the life and work of the celebrated Disney translator, who lived in Schwarzenbach for 50 years. From 1951, Erika Fuchs (1906–2005) became the first editor-in-chief to translate the Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse comics into German, shaping generations of readers with playful coinages like "grübel," "ächz" and "seufz", the so-called Erikativ. A walk-in Duckburg, complete with Gyro Gearloose's workshop and Scrooge McDuck's money bin, is among the highlights of Germany's first comic museum.

Hof sits 495 metres above sea level amid magnificent countryside between the Frankenwald forest and the Fichtelgebirge mountains. Sights include the restored Theresienstein building in the town park, the Freiheitshalle and Lake Untreusee.
